In late summer
2002 Jolie Breaux was racing go-carts in
southern Michigan when she was involved in a
wreck at the go-cart race track, she was not
hurt, just shaken up a bit. Later in the year
after she was named Pepsi Point Champion at
the track she talked to her parents and said
she did not want to race go-carts any more
and that she wanted to race pigeons. Her
quest for homing pigeons ended with Mr.
Murry Strawdler in Michigan who was getting
out of pigeon racing due to health problems
unrelated to the pigeons. Jolie and her
sister Natalie along with their dad went and
visited Murry. Murry agreed to give the
girls each 3 pair of Pure Van Boxmeers that
he had raised off of his imports. Jolie
picked blue bars, and Natalie picked out
blue checks and one red bar. With these
original 12 birds Sisters loft was formed. A
12 by 24 foot loft was built in Michigan and
late hatch bird’s raised with the intent of
racing old birds the following year.
During the
spring of 2003 the girl’s father took a job
in Connecticut thus ending their hopes of
flying their old bird team. Instead all of
the old bird team was brought to Connecticut
as prisoners, along with a young bird team
which was raised in Michigan and settled and
raced in Colebrook Connecticut. The girls
raced their young birds in the fall of 2003
against the tough competition in New England
in the mountains of northern Connecticut. In
the girls first season they set an
International Federation Speed record from
0-100 miles, won diplomas and were named
Rookies of the year by the International
Federation. The girls accomplished all of
this while keeping active in their Schools
Bands, Choir’s and being on the honor rolls.
During this
time the girls grandfather Eneise Breaux
came and visited the girls and went to the
Torrington Racing Pigeon Club and meet some
of the other flyers in the club. After the
meeting he decided that he would like to
race homing pigeons as well. Being retired
he had some free time and thought it would
be a great hobby. So in the fall of 2003
Cajun loft was started in Baton Rouge
Louisiana. As the loft was being built
grandpa Eneise secured the promise of
breeding stock from his grand daughters
Jolie and Natalie. Jolie and Natalie sent
Grandpa his foundation stock 6 pair of
breeders (prisoners from the old bird team
raised in Michigan) Those 6 pair of breeders
along with 2 pair of breeders from Bill
Caprano whom Eneise had meet at the TRPC.
In the young
bird season of 2004 Cajun Loft was Named
Rookie of the Year with the International
Federation at the young age of 70.
During the 2004
race season s Natalie and Jolie were able to
meet Mr. Paul Walsh and have added some of
Paul’s Pigeons to the loft. Paul Walsh has
also helped to mentor the Breaux family in
the ways of the sport.
Since the
spring of 2003 the two lofts have been very
successful.
